| Annual gynecological exams are an
extremely important part of women’s health care. This
yearly exam provides your gynecologist to detect and
test for any abnormalities of the vulva, vagina ovaries,
fallopian tubes, cervix, uterus, breast, and colon.
Most exams include the following components. Screening
for sexually transmitted infections. Examination by
touch and/or pressure (palpation) to screen for abnormal
growths such as cancer of the ovaries, uterus, and
breast. A pap smear to detect cervical dysplasia and
cervical cancer.
Even if you have had a yearly exam within the allotted
time, women should seek additional gynecological care
if they experience warning signs such as: abdominal
lump, swelling or bloating, abdominal pain or cramping,
pain with intercourse, abnormal vaginal bleeding, spotting
or discharge, breast lump, pain or discharge, unexplained
weight loss, or persistent digestive problems. |
